Cyanotypes II

Hello, my name is Nico Inocalla and I am a fourth-year Visual student. For this second installation at the Archer Library, I used some of my personal favourite portraits that I took over the past few months.

In our first project, we only used a collection of plants exposed to ultra-violet light, on a coated paper. Using the cyanotype process and negative film for our II installations, I would like to explore getting the details of their physical features, personality, and emotions.

The combination of the cyanotype process including negatives was a real challenge for me - from finding the correct adjustments of each photo using photoshop, the right amount and pressure of brushing chemicals on the paper, and lastly, finding the correct exposures...it took me several practices to get the hang of it. I'm so glad I did not give up.

Four different portraits of two different generations.

Here is a short clip of the process of my work.

To seal my work, I used wax and gently buff it
