Hello, my name is Rhylynn Wahl, I'm a digital & film artist based in Regina, Saskatchewan. Currently,
I am completing my bachelor's degree in computer science, & a certificate in photography at the
University of Regina.
At the beginning of the 2024 winter semester, our class created a pinhole camera. A pinhole camera is a
small camera with no lens instead it is a small pin size hole. I put my camera out on my window sill on
January 10, 2024, then ended the exposure on April 4, 2024. The image only lasted an hour as it was
taken with photo-sensitive paper. The image that took three months to take slowly faded away after
scanning. While the pinhole was sitting at my window I made sure to leave my digital camera next to it. It was a
constant reminder to take images of the shadow the tree and sun made in my home.
My final image is the pinhole shot of my backyard with the sun lines rising and setting over the three
months. I also included four waxed cyanotype images on Platine paper of shadows I would see while
my pinhole captures the sun and tree.
I waxed my images with beeswax to enhance the shine of the shadows and the use of platine paper
cut down my exposure time from eighteen minutes to only eight, as well as keeping more chemicals on
the paper while washing. This process allowed my final work to be a simple royal blueprint.
