Jim Hall - Pinhole Camera Prints

For our third and last exhibition in the Archer Library at the University of Regina our class on Thursday afternoon installed prints we made using pinhole cameras.

I made 7 pinhole cameras from a variety of materials - several tall beer cans, a Balvenie Whisky cardboard cylinder, a small round Laughing Cow cheese box, a shoe box and a smaller box. I put 6 of these cameras, each containing a piece of photo sensitive paper, in upper and main floor windows in my house. I attached the 7th one to a fence in my yard. The cameras remained in place from mid January to early April.

In class last week we removed the photo sensitive paper from the cameras and scanned the images on the paper. Later, we each edited the scanned images in Photoshop and our Professor, Risa Horowitz, printed the images. We then mounted the images on foamcore for the exhibition.

Pinhole cameras are easy to make and the resulting images can be quite stunning.

Below are 6 images from my cameras. Unfortunately, I should have made photos of the images before they were put into the showcase. I photographed them after and the individual images aren't properly aligned.
